behind a bit

Monday and I wish I could say I have the  Organizer done, but... I have an older  set  for putting the eyelets in and... to many broken  fittings. Sorry Mom Janet, but it has been a wonderful tool to use.
 I need to get a new one to finish them so far I have the top part to a group of  dresses  in the work, and need to make  tags to sew into them yet.

I Just realized it's (pm and I hadn't wrote A blog for today! This was a busy day this morning I went to the Fan Page, on Facebook to say Good Morning, on to realize it was  close to lunch time!

I had been working on the Fan page  add new tabs to it, sprucing it up a bit and learning how to do them Check them out when you get the chance!

Planting, Ideas

Man the week has flown by. I've been busy working on the yard and Laundry! I  really think my life since having kids as been nothing but doing Laundry. It seems to never get caught up and when it does.... wait  few days and some one dumps an overflowing load in the hamper...... (sigh)

 The up side of doing it this week was I got to hang it outside. I love the smell of  laundry when it's been outside drying... it just has a different smell, And it feels different too!

Flower beds are looking good... I have an Iris with a bud on it! (Actually I found a second this morning) Now if I could remember what color it was in that area?

It's also been a good time, while planting to running things through the head. I have been working on that dress I gave you a sneak peak at a few post back.  It's a coming along pretty good.  I haven't decided if I like straps or not yet... maybe narrower..... But I am liking where it's going.



I've made a few handles for bags. Yes not all the handles are recycled belts, but I do like using them. Most of my handles are made from upholstery fabric seamed together and top stitched where needed.  I have also used some of the webbing  material as handles that you find at the fabric store. It's all a matter of color, or prints and  what seems to going together.

Lastest Works....

I have had a couple of very productive days... even with all the other things going haywire in the house! Starting with the Plumber and the leak that was fixed last week ... which needed to get REFIXED Monday morning after it soaked the rug and floor in the basement! OK It wasn't that bad, the area rug got soaked and the hubby filed about 1/4 of the wet vac ....luckily the daughter found it before we all went to bed. We just don't know how long it was leaking! Then there is the never ending laundry stream... And I'm mean stream because that's what the hall way in front of my Laundry room looks like! Gees!


Well even with all this I got some Bucket Bags done.I Have completed 3 totally and have exteriors done on another 3!WooHoo.... and that's just 2 days of work!So check them out... will be getting better pictures for the site done later this week!

Why am I talking about this shop... Well I have the privilege to have some of items for sale there. New from Last week!

I  have debating what to post today.... I have challenged my self in to posting twice a week, and It is challenge me today!

I have decided to post pics of the 3 bags I completed this past week.

First up Grandma Ethels' Bag
This is a similar design fabric to one of the previous
one only the colors are different. It has a brown/gold/orange  with it's geometric print with brown-blue solid and a gold Faux leather strip running around the top as trim.band around the top.

Than we have 2 Bucket Bags. The first has a red and Beige color going on in it, While the second has more of a Brown shade theme running.

Jacket to purse Act 1

Ok  i've posted on my fan page last week that I would tell you more about  the jacket purses I've been working on! Well here we go!

It wasn't that bad of a looking jacket, but it was scream turn me into something else!

I got 2 purse for the price of 1 jacket and I still have some left over fabric!

What I found out after ripping it apart was that I was 1 drawn to the opposite side of the fabric. Yup the negative image is what you see here as the base of these two. I liked the stripe for some reason with the creamy white flower. It said spring in a suttle way.

  

The curve of the facing which made the facing up was the other interesting thing I liked. So I decided to incorporate into the flap and in the process decided I liked the shoulders as flaps as well! hence 2 purse came about.

This was the first one I completed I decided to use a belt as a handle that was woven. And a magnetic closure on the flap to hold it closed

 I also kept the Alfred Dunner label on it. Though I original had thought of using it on the out side I like the floral design better  the other way!
I top stitched the flap to give it a crisper look.
 This one as 1 zipper pocket on the inside!

Purse 2  I used much more of the jacket. The handles are from it as well as the button closure. The button was original to the jacket and the strap that it button into is actually the collar! I used a piece of leather  upholstery sample. It also has a zippered pocket on the inside!

Small Scale Messenger Bag

I decided to day to show how I made my latest Small Scale Messenger  Bag.

                 First as always I choose my fabric color(s). These days I am piece more of my

                           samples  together, so once I decide on colors, I layer out how I  want to

see them combined and the sew.

I pine the exterior and cut the lining so it fits the exterior.

 

   In this case I have sides that are put in separate.

 

 Then I cut any pockets that I want added to the bag out of the lining fabric. And stitch.

 

                       before sewing the second side in I machine embroider  my twine Hearts in place.

                          I cut and sew the handle from a coordinating fabric  And the the appropriate

                          hardware in place and attach to bag . 

                          After attaching the handle  with the lining I put the buttonhole in and sew
                            the button on.

  

                               And Wholla  the latest and greatest Small Scale  Messenger Bag!

Spring!

It's Monday and cloudy here. The first day of spring, yesterday brought rain which help melt most of our snow here. Well at least where we've plowed the driveway!
Spring has also brought some new fabrics into the mix at the shop! Here are several of the items I've finished this last week!

Doll clothes 101

As of today I have 59  products listed. I probably have more as some of the items I listed were color choices.

I have for a long time sewn doll clothes. In fact I started selling them before I  even had girls. Like many vendors who sell at craft  shows I started out using commercial patterns from my Grandmother's stash! But as the years went on I decided to try my hand at creating my own.

Now you might look at the designs and say they came from a store but I base my doll clothes on what little girls would wear! Or what I would dress my own in.

 Simply patterns that could be altered by just what fabric was used. It was the style that I was going for.

Jumper Fun in Cow Print

My all-in-one Jumper is a good example.  Having had three girls and at least a dozen  Barbie dolls a piece! (Thanks to their Grandma!) Multiple pieces pulling on or off ( depending on the age of the girls) went. I would get tired of having to dress them. Little hands can't always get them.The idea game from a commercial  pattern I had  that had the top and bottom attached! Hmm! Light bulb time.

 Peter Pan collars and Sleeve would make a shirt. I had already made that for a top! So many of the baby outfits  I had put the kids in had bib-overall  style to it. Ahh! Jumper... you usually had a shirt underneath. That was simple

What made thing simpler for me was that I was when  making my pattern pieces I decided to make them interchangeable.  Interchangeable with in groups. Sleeves that would interchange in either a top or dress from long to short, gathered or straight! This has simplified and made doing doll clothes over the years so much more enjoyable!

Patchwork

I decided Back when I posted Grandma  Ethel's Bag, That I needed to start blogging about the other items in the Shop!

So That's where we are today. with a different design from the shop. This time I Choose one of the Quilts I have listed.

I actually made my first Quilt with my Grandmother for my dorm room.  Just simple blocks sewn in no particular order. We backed it with the pre-quilted fabric which was new on the market  than and tied it. Now I have been told that tieing make it a comforter, but I don't cake it's warm just the same. And it rides around in the back of my car where ever I go! ( or which ever one of the kids has the car at that time!)

It's amazing how many different way you can use a square!  You can do as I first did, which takes the true meaning of what I believe A "Patch Work Quilt" should be. Or you can layout with a specific design in mind. Take my Blue Patch work Quilt for example.

A lot of how I lay out my blocks is determined by how many I have of any one print (or solid).
Because of this ,I have been known to get started  with an idea in mind and totally wind up going a different route in the end.

Ah the joy of scrap Quilting! I name what every piece used was leftover from using. That is what makes quilts so special I think is that they tell a story. Even if you didn't make it it has A story to it.

So, why not stay warm and make it Your Story!
